Moscow: Sudan’s Ambassador to the Russian Federation, Mohamed Al-Ghazali Siraj, met on Friday with the Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Russian State Duma, Leonid Slutsky. The meeting focused on recent developments in Sudan, particularly the violations committed by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia in El-Fashir and Bara, which include acts of killing, rape, and forced displacement. These acts were highlighted as blatant violations of international humanitarian law and fundamental human values.
According to Sudan News Agency, Ambassador Siraj renewed Sudan’s call for the urgent designation of the RSF militia as a terrorist organization. He emphasized the need for an immediate halt to all external military and financial support provided to the militia, particularly from the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The Ambassador also praised Russia’s supportive stance towards Sudan, including its condemnation of the atrocities committed by the RSF militia and its consistent affirmation of Sudan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. He highlighted the strong coordination between the two countries in international forums, especially at the United Nations Security Council.
Leonid Slutsky reiterated Russia’s condemnation of the grave violations committed by the RSF militia and expressed solidarity with the victims. He assured that the Foreign Affairs Committee is fully briefed on these abuses, describing them as completely unacceptable. Slutsky stressed the importance of protecting Sudan’s legitimate state institutions, emphasizing that Sudan’s stability is crucial not only for its people but for the wider region. He also commended the ongoing efforts to strengthen bilateral relations through recent joint engagements.
