Berlin: Continuing the diplomatic engagements of the Sudanese Embassy in Berlin, Ambassador Elham Ibrahim Mohamed Ahmed, accompanied by Deputy Head of Mission Ambassador Idris Mohamed Ali, met with members of the German Bundestag and the Foreign Affairs Committee in two separate meetings: Mr. Markus Koob of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU), the largest partner in the governing coalition, and Mr. Ralf Stegner of the Social Democratic Party (SPD), also a coalition partner.
According to Sudan News Agency, Ambassador Elham addressed developments in Sudan, emphasizing the ongoing full-scale war, which is being fueled by external support in the form of weapons, equipment, and political and media backing from the United Arab Emirates (UAE). She explained that the UAE is using the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia as a tool to carry out this aggression, reinforced by mercenaries from neighboring countries and beyond.
She also discussed the government's efforts to achieve peace and stability through the Sudan Peace Initiative, presented by the Prime Minister to the UN Security Council in December last year. The Ambassador expressed Sudan's appreciation for Germany's contribution to humanitarian support through various UN agencies and programs, and conveyed Sudan's hope that the German side would understand the complexities of the war and its aggressive nature, which primarily targets civilians and national resources. She called on Germany, as a key partner, to play a more active role in promoting peace and stability in Sudan by pressuring the militia's sponsor to halt the supply of weapons, equipment, and political and media support, which she described as the shortest and most effective path to ending the war.
The German parliamentarians, for their part, affirmed their concern regarding the ongoing war and humanitarian tragedy in Sudan and condemned the crimes and violations committed by the rebel militias against civilians. They stated that the Foreign Affairs Committee would pay closer attention to the situation in Sudan based on the comprehensive briefing provided by the Ambassador and that the committee would work through its deliberations to support peace and stability in the country.
