Berlin: Sudan's ambassador to Germany, Elham Ibrahim Mohamed Ahmed, along with Deputy Head of Mission, Ambassador Idris Mohamed Ali, engaged in crucial discussions with members of the German Parliament and the Foreign Affairs Committee. The meetings were held with Mr. Markus Kopp of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) and Mr. Ralf Stegner of the Social Democratic Party (SPD).
According to Sudan News Agency, Ambassador Ahmed addressed the escalating conflict in Sudan, highlighting the comprehensive war of aggression supported externally through weapons, equipment, and political backing from the United Arab Emirates. The ambassador alleged that the UAE is utilizing the Rapid Support Forces militia, backed by mercenaries from neighboring and other countries, as instruments in this conflict. She discussed the Sudanese government's ongoing efforts to establish peace and stability via the Sudan Peace Initiative, presented by the Prime Minister to the Security Council last December.
The ambassador expressed appreciation for Germany's humanitarian contributions through United Nations agencies and programs. She urged Germany, as a key partner, to exert more influence by pressuring entities supporting the militia with arms and political support. This, she argued, is essential for ending the conflict, which heavily targets civilians and depletes the country's resources.
In response, the German parliamentarians voiced concern over the ongoing war and humanitarian crisis in Sudan. They condemned the atrocities committed by the rebel militia against civilians and assured that the Foreign Affairs Committee would enhance its focus on the Sudan situation. The committee aims to promote peace and stability, informed by the ambassador's detailed briefing on the ground realities.
