Khartoum: Sudan has renewed its readiness to enhance its regional and international partnerships in combating drugs, calling on regional and international partners, as well as the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), to support the country’s efforts to rehabilitate institutions concerned with drug control, strengthen their national capacities, provide technical support, supply communication and mobility equipment, contribute to personnel capacity building, and promote the exchange of information, expertise, and best practices.
According to Sudan News Agency, this was stated in a statement delivered by Sudan’s First Secretary for Drug Affairs at Sudan’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations and International Organizations in Vienna, Jamal Awad Idris, during the meetings of the 68th Resumed Session of the Commission on Narcotic Drugs, held on Friday, December 5, 2025, at the UNODC headquarters in Vienna.
The statement also highlighted the Sudanese government’s efforts in raising outreach about the dangers of drugs, particularly among youth and students, tracking and dismantling drug trafficking networks, enhancing cooperation and information exchange among all relevant institutions, and sharing information with friendly and sister countries. It reviewed some recent drug seizures achieved by the General Directorate for Drug Control and other law enforcement agencies, including the seizure of a Captagon pill manufacturing lab in Al-Gaili city after its liberation from rebel control.
