Sudan: Sudan took part in the first senior officials' meeting of the Belt and Road Energy Partnership, an international alliance launched by China to promote the green transition, energy security, and sustainable development. The meeting was held in Beijing and saw participation from representatives of 35 countries, as well as institutions, companies, research centers, and Chinese universities.
According to Sudan News Agency, Sudan was represented at the meeting via video conference by the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Petroleum, Engineer Ali Abdulrahman Mohamed, alongside the Director-General of Petroleum Policy and Economics, Imam Allah Jabo, and the Director-General of Planning and Policy at the Ministry, Osman Al-Amin Al-Arabi. The First Secretary at the Sudanese Embassy in Beijing, Aza Al-Azraq, participated in person and delivered Sudan's statement to the meeting.
The meeting focused on energy security and sustainable energy issues, exploring ways to develop partnerships in the energy sector within current and future Belt and Road Initiative projects. It also reviewed cooperation between member states and Chinese institutions and companies aimed at strengthening energy security and accelerating the transition towards new, renewable, and clean energy sources. Preparations for the Fourth Ministerial Conference of the Energy Partnership under the initiative were also discussed.
The Sudanese delegation highlighted the country's abundant resources and advantages in the energy sector, including oil, hydropower, solar, and wind energy. The delegation reviewed the current state of Sudan's energy sector and its challenges, alongside a strategic vision outlined in Sudan's energy plan for the period 2026-2030. Investment opportunities through development projects were underscored, with Sudan aiming to attract funding and investment from member states in the initiative and direct financing to support regional integration among Belt and Road countries.
In its statement, Sudan reaffirmed the depth of its strategic relations with the People's Republic of China, praising the contribution of Sudanese-Chinese cooperation to the development of the oil and energy sector. The country renewed its commitment to the Energy Partnership under the Belt and Road Initiative, commending its role in enhancing cooperation and integration among member states and in facilitating the exchange of expertise, best practices, and relevant studies.
