Geneva: Minister Plenipotentiary Mai Ibrahim, Deputy Permanent Representative of Sudan to the United Nations in Geneva, delivered the Arab Group statement on Wednesday during the high-level panel discussion at the Human Rights Council. The event marked the International Day of Women in Diplomacy and focused on women's rights in representation in decision-making positions.
According to Sudan News Agency, the statement highlighted the deep concern over the challenges faced by women and girls, particularly in armed conflicts, where they experience significant burdens due to escalating violence and the collapse of protection systems.
The Deputy Permanent Representative, speaking on behalf of the Arab Group, emphasized the commitment of Arab states to empower women and enhance their participation in public and political life and decision-making processes. She noted the progress made by Arab countries in promoting women's presence in leadership roles, legislative bodies, and diplomatic work.
The Arab Group also stressed the importance of continued efforts to dismantle social and cultural barriers that hinder women's participation. They advocated for expanded empowerment opportunities, aiming to strengthen women's roles in peacebuilding, security, and development, and to enhance their presence within the United Nations and multilateral international work.
