Vienna: Sudan has made a plea to the international community to intensify pressure on the United Arab Emirates and hold it accountable for its alleged aggression against Sudan. The nation has also called for the designation of the rebel Rapid Support Forces militia as a terrorist entity, following a brutal massacre in Kalogi that claimed over 120 civilian lives, predominantly of women and children.
According to Sudan News Agency, the Permanent Mission of Sudan to the United Nations and other international organizations in Vienna presented this appeal during a briefing on December 11, 2025. The briefing, directed at diplomatic missions in Vienna, showcased video evidence and photographs depicting the severity of the atrocities committed by the rebels. Ambassador Magdi Ahmed Mufaddal, Sudan's Permanent Representative to the United Nations in Vienna, highlighted the rebels' ongoing attacks on power stations and humanitarian aid convoys, as well as their employment of mercenaries. He also referenced alarming satellite imagery and civilian testimonies of atrocities in El Fasher, warning of potential further violence akin to the El Geneina massacre in June 2023.
Ambassador Mufaddal criticized some international players for prioritizing their economic, diplomatic, and security interests with the rebellion's regional sponsor over the safety of Sudanese civilians. He mentioned the US Treasury Department's decision to sanction Colombian entities involved in recruiting mercenaries for the rebels. Additionally, the ambassador urged diplomatic missions to back Sudan's collaboration with the International Atomic Energy Agency to reinstate radiotherapy services at the National Cancer Institute, and to support Sudan's industrial recovery efforts with the United Nations Industrial Development Organization. The call also extended to rebuilding institutions for the peaceful use of atomic energy and outer space, and combating transnational crime, terrorism, and arms smuggling.
