Madrid: Spain’s Deputy Prime Minister Yolanda Diaz has called for the repeal of all partnership agreements between the European Union and Israel. This demand comes in response to the recent Israeli occupation’s attack on the “Global Sumud Flotilla,” which aimed to break the siege of the Gaza Strip. During the incident, more than 400 individuals from 45 countries were detained.
According to Syrian Arab News Agency, Diaz addressed reporters, stating, “I am sending a message to the European community, all agreements with Israel must be completely broken off, it kills Palestinian children and violates international law against Spanish and other activists from all over the world.” She expressed strong criticism towards the European Union’s silence regarding the Israeli government’s actions, particularly its violations of international humanitarian law and the alleged perpetration of genocide. Diaz also called for the swift release of Spanish citizens and other international activists detained by Israeli forces.
The Global Sumud Flotilla was intercepted by Israeli forces at midnight on Wednesday in international waters in the Mediterranean Sea. The flotilla, which was en route to Gaza to challenge the Israeli blockade, saw dozens of its vessels seized and hundreds of activists on board apprehended.
