Port sudan: The second phase of the 'Italy for Sudan' initiative was launched on Saturday in Port Sudan, continuing the efforts initially started on December 25, 2025, with an air bridge that delivered humanitarian aid to 2,500 students in schools for displaced families on the outskirts of the city.

According to Sudan News Agency, Italian Ambassador to Sudan Michele Tomasi announced that the second phase involves the delivery of an initial 34 tonnes of food supplies to three displacement camps. Additionally, non-food relief items will be distributed to 15,000 displaced families across 31 camps in Red Sea State over the coming weeks.

Ambassador Tomasi elaborated that by the end of April, the total assistance delivered under the initiative will reach 107 tonnes. The programme will also see the inauguration and inspection of several projects implemented with the support of the Italian Development Cooperation, focusing on vulnerable groups.

Tomasi emphasized that the initiative underscores Italy's continued commitment to supporting the Sudanese population affected by the crisis, aiming to improve living conditions for the most vulnerable, particularly internally displaced persons (IDPs).

He further highlighted that Italy has maintained a consistent humanitarian presence in Sudan since the conflict began, with total contributions amounting to approximately pound 116 million.
