Khartoum: Within the framework of addressing humanitarian issues, alleviating civilian suffering, and advancing peace and stability, the Governor of the Darfur Region, Commander Minni Arko Minnawi, met on Saturday with a delegation from the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs. The meeting was attended by Humanitarian Affairs Coordinator Engineer Abdelbagi Mohamed Hamid, Sudan's Permanent Representative to the United Nations in Geneva, alongside senior officials and representatives of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation.
According to Sudan News Agency, the Swiss delegation comprised a number of senior officials, including the Head of the Peace and Human Rights Division, the Head of the Horn of Africa and North Africa Division, the Deputy Head of the Africa Division, the Horn of Africa Programme Officer, and the Africa Division Officer.
The meeting addressed a range of issues of mutual concern, foremost among them the evolving situation in the Darfur Region, the prevailing humanitarian challenges, and avenues for supporting peace and stability efforts across the region.
During the meeting, Minnawi underscored the importance of Switzerland assuming an effective role in supporting pathways toward a just and comprehensive peace, as well as bolstering humanitarian initiatives that contribute to alleviating the suffering of citizens and reinforcing stability.
He further expressed his appreciation for the sustained engagement of the Swiss side with Sudan's issues, commending their continued support for peacebuilding, stability, and humanitarian action.
For their part, members of the Swiss delegation reaffirmed their country's commitment to continuing support for initiatives aimed at achieving peace and strengthening humanitarian efforts in the Darfur Region.
