Khartoum: The Minister of Culture and Information and government spokesman, Khalid Al-Aiser, condemned the rebel Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia for intensifying its attacks on vital facilities in Sudan. These actions, which include targeting the Merowe Dam and Dongola power station, are deemed a violation of international humanitarian law and the Geneva Conventions, which protect essential services for civilians, such as water and power stations.
According to Sudan News Agency, Al-Aiser highlighted that the RSF militia’s actions endanger civilian lives and exacerbate suffering in Sudan. The militia has previously targeted cultural and religious sites, including museums, mosques, churches, markets, schools, and universities, further assaulting the Sudanese people’s heritage.
The spokesman emphasized that these acts undermine international efforts to maintain regional peace and security. He called for accountability for the militia and those supplying it with drones used in these violations, which breach
international humanitarian law as per the Geneva Conventions and protocols for the protection of vital facilities.
The Sudanese government urged all nations and human rights organizations to take swift action to classify the RSF militia, its members, and its supporters, including countries, institutions, and individuals, as terrorist entities subject to international pursuit and punishment.
