Khartoum: Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Saif Al-Nasr Al-Tijani, announced that the Doha Conference, which took place in mid-December, was fruitful for Sudan. The conference saw Sudan participate in both the Arab Housing Ministers Conference and the Housing and Urban Development Conference, where the nation successfully secured a position among countries slated for reconstruction. This initiative is aimed at nations affected by war, including Yemen, Somalia, and Syria, and is sponsored by the Arab League with funding from international institutions.
According to Sudan News Agency, Al-Tijani revealed that several Qatari companies have expressed interest in investing in Sudan. While previous agreements were halted due to the war, current efforts are focused on reviving them. A significant project under consideration is a railway line connecting Sudan to Chad in the Adr© area. Al-Tijani mentioned that Sudan has proposed to Qatari companies that the railway line be initially extended to Kosti city, with project completion anticipated after the war ends and Sudan's territories are liberated from rebel militia control. This proposed route is part of the Silk Road.
Al-Tijani also highlighted that companies in the mining and agriculture sectors have shown investment interest, which will be communicated to relevant authorities for further action. He confirmed Qatar's readiness to engage in the reconstruction program, which presents promising prospects for the Sudanese population. Qatar's significant capabilities, particularly in construction machinery and equipment from World Cup preparations, could be utilized in Sudan's reconstruction efforts. A preliminary agreement has already been reached, and a Qatari delegation is expected to visit Sudan to conduct necessary studies.
He reiterated that goodwill exists between both parties, and agreements will be signed upon completion of the studies. Al-Tijani expressed appreciation for the efforts and cooperation of Qatari Minister, Her Excellency Sheikha Buthaina Al-Khalifa, during bilateral meetings.
