Wadi halfa: Prime Minister Dr. Kamil Idris conducted an on-site inspection on Wednesday morning of ongoing efforts to rehabilitate and upgrade the quay of the Wadi Halfa River Port, accompanied by a high-level delegation. During the visit, the Prime Minister commended the substantial progress achieved in the first phase of the rehabilitation works, describing it as a significant step toward restoring the port's operational capacity.
According to Sudan News Agency, Dr. Idris expressed his appreciation to the Egyptian side for its pivotal contribution to the rehabilitation process, underscoring the importance of maintaining close and structured coordination to complete the remaining phases. These include the rehabilitation of cargo handling and storage facilities, which are essential to enhancing the port's efficiency and throughput.
The Prime Minister also reviewed operations at the temporary quay currently in use pending completion of the main port's redevelopment. He assessed its readiness to receive voluntary return convoys, reaffirming the government's commitment to facilitating safe and organized returns.
Dr. Kamil Idris pledged to restore Wadi Halfa River Port to its former standing-and beyond-positioning it as a vital logistical hub in northern Sudan.
