Khartoum: Prime Minister Dr. Kamil Idris has reaffirmed the Hope Government's commitment to supporting and developing the Gezira Scheme, describing it as the backbone of agriculture in Sudan and one of the principal pillars of the national economy.
According to Sudan News Agency, the statement came during his meeting with the Gezira Scheme Governor, Engineer Ibrahim Mustafa. In a press briefing, Mustafa reported that he had informed the Prime Minister about the overall performance of the project, particularly focusing on the past summer and winter seasons, as well as the requirements for the upcoming agricultural season.
The Governor highlighted that the meeting addressed the issue of wheat prices, emphasizing the importance of discussions with financing institutions to establish a price that protects farmers' interests and encourages an increase in production.
He added that the discussions also included arrangements and preparations for the forthcoming agricultural season, along with the necessary inputs needed to support the project's progress and enhance its productivity.
Engineer Ibrahim Mustafa further disclosed that the Prime Minister pledged to visit the Gezira Scheme in the near future.
