Port Sudan: Prime Minister Dr. Kamil Idris emphasized the necessity to advance the Gezira Agricultural Scheme to achieve self-sufficiency for the nation and export the surplus. He highlighted the significant work required in the agriculture sector in the forthcoming period and called for increased efforts to enhance agricultural and food development in the country.
According to Sudan News Agency, the Prime Minister’s remarks came during a meeting at his office in Port Sudan with Engineer Ibrahim Mustafa, the Wali (governor) of Gezira Scheme. During the meeting, the Prime Minister was briefed on the project’s overall status and its most pressing needs to expedite its launch.
The Governor of Gezira Scheme stated in press statements that the Prime Minister has extended full support to ensure the success of the summer season. Ibrahim Mustafa noted that the Prime Minister plans to visit the Scheme soon to assess the overall situation, and farmers’ seed needs are expected to be met during this week.
The Prime Minister informed the officials about the urgent challenges that need addressing for the start of the season and the planting of summer crops across all sectors of the Scheme. The governor assured that all obstacles hindering progress would be resolved with the Prime Minister’s backing, and new equipment and machinery would be introduced to the project.
He added that the forthcoming period would witness the beginning of a renaissance revolution in the Gezira Scheme.
