Wad madani: The representative of the Director General of the Ministry of Health in Gezira State, Dr. Omar Yousuf Al-Tai, inspected ongoing maintenance works and the installation of control systems for radiotherapy services at Al-Gezira Center for Oncology Treatment and Diagnosis in Wad Madani.
According to Sudan News Agency, the project is being implemented by UGB with funding from the Federal Ministry of Health and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), at a total cost of pound 2 million.
Dr. Al-Tai stated that restoring radiotherapy services-after a four-year suspension-represents a major breakthrough and a source of hope for cancer patients in Al-Gezira State and neighboring regions. He commended the efforts of the Federal Ministry of Health and the IAEA in rehabilitating and maintaining the radiotherapy division, as well as the role of Al-Gezira State Government in rebuilding the health system following systematic destruction.
For her part, the Director General of Al-Gezira Center for Oncology Treatment and Diagnosis, Dr. Maram Abdel Rahim, announced that maintenance and rehabilitation work is progressing according to plan. The upgrades include modernizing equipment and installing advanced control systems to ensure high-quality radiotherapy services.
She noted that restoring the service will significantly reduce the suffering of patients, many of whom have been forced to travel outside the state to receive treatment.
