Northern state: The Commissioner of the Humanitarian Aid Commission in Northern State, Dr. Wael Mohamed Sharif, confirmed that the commission has reached understandings with the World Food Programme (WFP) to implement a package of vital projects to strengthen food security, foremost among them the emergency wheat project.
According to Sudan News Agency, Dr. Sharif stated that the project is one of the important strategic initiatives in the field of food security, explaining that it could contribute to securing more than 90% of the state's food needs over a period of one to two years.
The Commissioner added that the World Food Programme has provided significant support to the agricultural sector through various agricultural equipment as part of strengthening reliance on local production.
Dr. Sharif noted that a WFP delegation conducted a field visit to one of the targeted agricultural sites for the emergency wheat project to assess technical and logistical aspects of implementation.
