Khartoum: The Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation, together with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), conducted a stakeholder workshop in Khartoum to review and approve Sudan's Country Programme Framework for the years 2026-2028.
According to Sudan News Agency, the workshop brought together representatives from government ministries, international and regional organizations, the Agricultural Bank, farmers' unions, the private sector, universities, and donors. It was chaired by Dr. Mubarak Othman, Director-General of Plant Protection, Mr. Hongjie Yang, FAO Representative in Sudan, and Babiker Hassan, Director of Organizations at the Ministry.
Dr. Othman stressed the necessity to tackle food shortages, improve production, and ensure sustainable agricultural development. He pointed out the significance of key crops for national revenue and the need for localized production support through collaboration with FAO.
Mr. Yang highlighted the critical role of agriculture in Sudan's economy and the sector's challenges in the post-war context. He reiterated FAO's commitment to aiding agricultural recovery and emphasized the importance of coordinated planning to determine the priority needs and activities for the 2026-2028 period.
