Khartoum: Minister of Minerals, Nour Al-Daim Taha, chaired the meeting of the Coordinating Committee to discuss the proposed strategic plan for securing the mining sector and combating smuggling.
According to Sudan News Agency, the meeting was attended by several key government officials, including Minister of Finance Dr. Gebreil Ibrahim, Minister of Communications and Digital Transformation Eng. Ahmed Dirdiri Ghandour, Governor of the Central Bank of Sudan (CBoS) Burai Al-Sadig, and Wali of the Red Sea State Lieutenant General Mustafa Mohamed Nour. Other notable attendees included the Director of the Customs Forces Lieutenant General Salah Ahmed Ibrahim, the Deputy Director of the General Intelligence Service, and the Commander of the Red Sea Military Area, along with representatives from security, economic, and related institutions.
The meeting, held at the Ministry of Minerals headquarters in Port Sudan, focused on reviewing the strategic plan’s main pillars. These include strengthening oversight of mining operations and the circulation of minerals, enhancing coordination among relevant institutions, and employing modern technologies to ensure transparency and reduce the loss of mineral resources.
Minister Taha emphasized that the strategic plan is a key directive of the government aimed at protecting national resources and maximizing their revenues. The strategy also seeks to build a safe and efficient mining system that increases production, attracts investments, protects mining companies from violations, and mitigates the environmental and health impacts of traditional mining.
He further emphasized the ministry’s commitment to establishing a secure and efficient mining framework that supports the national economy and contributes to achieving sustainable development.
