Geneva: The Minister of Justice, Dr. Abdullah Mohammed Dirif, recently met with Ambassador Sidharto Reza Suryodipuro, the President of the Human Rights Council and Permanent Representative of the Republic of Indonesia to the United Nations, during his participation in the current session of the Human Rights Council. The meeting focused on addressing the ongoing human rights challenges in Sudan.
According to Sudan News Agency, Dr. Dirif apprised the Council President of the dire human rights situation in Sudan, highlighting the persistent violations and systematic attacks carried out by the rebel Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia against civilians. He emphasized the national efforts being made to protect civilians, uphold the rule of law, and enhance judicial institutions. The Minister underscored the necessity of supporting national human rights and accountability mechanisms to ensure justice for victims and prevent impunity.
Dr. Dirif reiterated Sudan's commitment to cooperating with the Human Rights Council and its mechanisms operating in the country, including the Country Office and the designated Expert. He expressed a desire to expand the capacity-building support program for national mechanisms, particularly in the areas of collecting, preserving, and analyzing digital forensic evidence, and strengthening national institutional capacities.
Ambassador Sidharto Reza Suryodipuro acknowledged the Government of Sudan's constructive cooperation with the Council and its mechanisms. He stressed the importance of maintaining this cooperation and coordination to support national efforts in promoting and protecting human rights.
