Minister of Energy Highlights Oil and Gas Sector’s Role in National Economy

Khartoum: Minister of Energy Engineer Al-Mu'tasim Ibrahim Ahmed emphasized the crucial role of the oil and gas sector in the national economy, describing it as a key pillar and a priority for the Hope Government. During a meeting with senior directorate directors at the Sudanese Petroleum Corporation, attended by Engineer Mohamed Salih Othman, Head of the Steering Committee of the Undersecretary's Office, the Minister outlined the importance of reinstating the sector's significance within the national economy.

According to Sudan News Agency, the Minister discussed the strategic issues and developmental vision of the Ministry, emphasizing how the oil and gas sector drives economic, productive, and service activities. This is achieved through the extraction of oil resources, provision of petroleum derivatives for domestic needs, and contribution to the state treasury. The Minister acknowledged the substantial damage to infrastructure, including oil fields, storage depots, and the Khartoum Refinery, but highlighted the Ministry's continuous efforts to meet the country's petroleum product needs.

He further explained that the upcoming phase requires rebuilding the oil sector's infrastructure damaged by war to enhance its role in achieving sustainable development goals. The Ministry is focused on encouraging initiatives and innovations to serve the energy sector by leveraging qualified personnel and fostering integration among various units, aiming for accelerated and efficient achievements.
