New Delhi: As part of his meetings with Indian energy companies during his participation in the 3rd Indian Energy Week, Sudan’s Minister of Energy and Oil, Dr. Mohi-Eddin Naeem, along with his delegation and Sudan’s Ambassador to India, held a meeting with the General Manager of Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL), Mr. Shri Koppu Sadashiv Murthy, one of India’s prominent energy companies.
According to Sudan News Agency, during the meeting, the Minister outlined Sudan’s incentive policies aimed at encouraging private sector investment in the energy sector. This initiative comes as the country embarks on the reconstruction and rehabilitation of its electricity and energy infrastructure, which has been severely affected by attacks from terrorist militias targeting power supply and petroleum facilities.
The Minister emphasized Sudan’s potential to attract energy investments and extended an invitation to BHEL to expand its activities in Sudan. He noted that BHEL had previously supplied electricity equipment for the thermal power station in Kosti. In response, BHEL’s General Manager welcomed the invitation to resume cooperation with Sudan, highlighting the country’s resources and advantages in the energy sector. He affirmed BHEL’s commitment to exploring opportunities to expand its operations in Sudan and expressed openness to new partnership ideas to address current challenges.
Meanwhile, the Minister and his delegation visited the headquarters of TATA POWER, a company specializing in power generation and large-scale electricity supply projects using renewable energy and solar power. During the visit, the delegation observed the technology used in power generation, control systems, protection, and advanced monitoring mechanisms.
Both parties agreed to organize specialists’ visits to start providing technical consultations. These consultations aim to leverage TATA POWER’s expertise to enhance electricity supply and distribution in Sudan. This initiative is crucial as the country enters a new phase following the end of the rebellion, which is expected to increase electricity demand due to the return of displaced populations. The Ministry is focused on ensuring adequate power supply for residential, industrial, and agricultural sectors in these newly liberated areas.
