Port Sudan: Minister of Culture and Information, Khalid Al-Aiser, has emphasized the ministry’s commitment to fostering a media environment that serves national interests and supports media professionals. He assured that the ministry is open to addressing the concerns of journalists and cooperating with them.
According to Sudan News Agency, Al-Aiser made these remarks during the closing session of the workshop titled “The Role of the Press in Reconstruction and Promoting the Discourse of Peaceful Coexistence.” The event was organized by Al-Hakim Center for Press Services in collaboration with the Electronic Press Association at the Police House in Portsudan. He highlighted the ongoing media war waged by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia and praised the media’s support for the armed forces.
Al-Aiser announced the ministry’s commitment to implementing the workshop’s recommendations and emphasized building media institutions based on objective visions derived from media professionals through such workshops. He emphasized the necessity of collaborative efforts to strengthen the state’s media infrastructure.
Al-Aiser also mentioned the ministry’s receipt of promises for media training and funding programs aimed at rebuilding media institutions, expressing gratitude to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for its support and partnership with Sudan during the reconstruction phase.
Furthermore, Al-Aiser reiterated the government’s commitment to press freedom, advocating for a free press and the inclusion of external voices in defending the nation’s cause. He clarified that the government would only oppose external media outlets that pose a threat to national security.
Al-Aiser addressed the damage sustained by both official and private media institutions due to the conflict, highlighting the significant challenges and consequences faced by the media. He called for the development of a journalistic code of honor to unite journalists in their efforts.
