Al-gadarif: Minister of Agriculture and Irrigation, Prof. Ismat Gurashi Abdullah, affirmed that Sudan will not experience food shortages thanks to the farmers of Al-Gadarif State, who have been instrumental in securing the nation’s food supply. During his field visit to several agricultural areas in Al-Galabat Al-Gharbiya Locality, he was accompanied by Al-Gadarif Wali (governor) Lieutenant General Mohamed Ahmed Hassan. Prof. Abdullah stated that Sudan is showing signs of recovery as its citizens unite in support of the Armed Forces.
According to Sudan News Agency, the Minister emphasized ongoing efforts to boost crop yields per feddan, introduce value chains to tackle marketing issues, and support small farmers and women’s agricultural associations. He praised the adoption of modern agricultural technologies and noted the progress made by various crops. The Government of Hope remains committed to agriculture as a key to Sudan’s development.
Al-Gadarif Wali highlighted the favorable crop germination levels and the use of recommended technical packages to enhance productivity and cut production costs. He encouraged farmers to form agricultural associations to gain access to support and financing. He also pointed out the construction of new roads to connect production areas with consumption centers.
Farmer Babiker Abbas reported the application of recommended technical packages to sesame, groundnut, and millet crops, aiming to bridge the gap in groundnut production. He anticipated yields of 20 sacks of groundnuts and 5 sacks of sesame per feddan.
