Damascus: Members of the electoral colleges will begin arriving at polling stations to present their identification documents and receive their electoral cards at 9:00 a.m. on Sunday, according to Nawar Najmeh, spokesman of the Higher Committee for Elections. Once the identification process is completed, voters will proceed to the heads of the subcommittees to receive officially-stamped ballot papers.
According to Syrian Arab News Agency, the voting for the Parliament is initially scheduled to conclude at 12 midday. However, Najmeh mentioned that if not all members of the electoral colleges have cast their votes by then, the voting period can be extended until 4:00 PM at most.
Najmeh further explained that at the end of the voting process, the ballot box will be opened for public viewing, including all media outlets, and the vote counting will commence. Once the counting begins, the preliminary results will be published in the media.
Najmeh also noted that the preliminary results and names will be submitted to the appeals’ committees for review following their issuance by the High Elections Commission. This is to address any objections from members of the electoral colleges regarding the voting or counting mechanism.
The official results are expected to be announced during an official press conference to be conducted by the High Elections Commission for the People’s Assembly next Monday or Tuesday.
