Khartoum: Khartoum Wali (governor) Ahmed Osman Hamza has directed the Ministry of Urban Planning to immediately begin the ‘Cities of Dignity’ project to provide housing for the families of military and civilian martyrs of the Battle of Dignity, as well as residential plots for families affected by the removal of unplanned settlements who have not previously received land.
According to Sudan News Agency, Hamza stated that the initiative reflects the state’s commitment to social justice and honouring national sacrifices. He issued the directive during a field visit to Al-Marsa area in Shambat, where he inspected ongoing clearance of unplanned housing, accompanied by senior state officials.
The Wali of Khartoum State reaffirmed the government’s determination to protect the rights of affected families and noted that removing unplanned settlements is a key part of the state’s security and urban strategy. He added that more than 70 unplanned sites have been identified as hotspots for crime and negative practices. The operations enforce Decision No. (153) on removing unplanned settlements.
