Education Ministry: Launch of Comprehensive Educational Statistical Survey Project in Sudan with UNICEF Support

Sudan: The Ministry of Education and National Pedagogy announced the launch of an educational statistical survey project across several states in Sudan. Minister of Education Dr. Al-Tohami Al-Zain Hajar said, following a meeting in his office in Omdurman with the General Directorate of Educational Planning, that the survey will initially cover Khartoum, Al-Gezira, and Sennar states, in coordination with state statistical offices, before expanding gradually to the rest of the states until May 7, 2026, as part of efforts to strengthen evidence-based planning.

According to Sudan News Agency, the survey aims to collect accurate and comprehensive data on the education sector, including the number and types of schools and educational institutions, student and teacher numbers, as well as availability of basic services such as water, electricity, and healthcare in schools. It also includes assessing the learning environment and educational materials, including availability of textbooks, in order to build an integrated database to support policy development and improve education quality.

The minister added that the programme is being implemented with support from the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), which continues to support education in Sudan through various initiatives and programmes. He stressed that the results of the survey will serve as a key reference for decision-making and strategic planning to advance the education system across the country.
