Khartoum Security Committee Reports Rising Return of Citizens Amid Improved Stability and Services

Khartoum: The Security Coordination Committee of Khartoum Locality announced an increase in the return of citizens to the capital from abroad and other states, averaging 100 bus arrivals daily, attributing this to improved security stability and better basic services.

According to Sudan News Agency, the committee, chaired by Executive Director of the locality Abdel Moneim Al-Bashir, reviewed progress in reopening the Khartoum land transport terminal to receive returnees. It noted the completion of cleaning of main halls and removal of war remnants, debris, and remains of those who were buried during the war inside the terminal.

The committee directed that all buses be moved into the main terminal yard to eliminate negative practices, including parking on surrounding streets. It also reviewed the removal of war-affected markets in Al-Souq Al-Shaabi (popular market), Buri 4, Al-Oshara, Al-Jumaa, and Arkawit 55, urging completion of remaining demolition work in preparation for rehabilitation.

The committee confirmed ongoing vector control campaigns targeting disease-carrying insects and dengue fever, under the supervision of federal and state health ministries, with participation of 698 health workers deployed across all administrative units. It also reviewed preparations for grading the Sudanese Secondary School Certificate examination papers at three centres, along with 21 accommodation sites for exam markers, and received a report on currency exchange operations in banks and related security measures from April 15 to May 15.

A criminal registration form was approved to register market workers, in a move to tighten security and reinforce state authority. The committee further reported that police stations remained free of serious crimes due to preventive security measures implemented during the past week, which included four joint campaigns and routine police operations that helped reduce crime.
