Khartoum: A Sudanese delegation, headed by the Chairperson of the National Committee for Combating Money Laundering and Terrorism Financing, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Justice, Howida Ali Awad Al-Karim, met with a delegation from the sisterly Arab Republic of Egypt, headed by the Minister of Justice, on the sidelines of the first meeting of the Asset Recovery Inter-Agency Network (ARIN) in the Middle East and North Africa.
According to Sudan News Agency, the meeting was focused on the activation of mechanisms for recovering assets looted during the war, including funds, minerals, and antiquities that were transferred to other countries. The discussions aimed at enhancing cooperation to address these issues effectively.
The meeting also addressed legal cooperation based on regional judicial cooperation agreements. It underscored the need to conclude bilateral agreements between the two countries to enable the implementation of all forms of judicial cooperation in criminal and civil matters. Additionally, the exchange of expertise among legal advisers was highlighted as a key component of the cooperation.
The Egyptian Minister of Justice conveyed a message of reassurance regarding the progress of legal work in Sudan following the stabilization of the situation. The minister confirmed their readiness for full coordination between the Egyptian Ministry of Justice and its Sudanese counterpart in all areas covered by the meeting, urging that the requirements be formalized operationally in preparation for implementation.
