Khartoum: Minister of Justice Dr. Abdullah Dirif met on Wednesday in his office with the Secretary-General of the Sudan Workers' Trade Unions Federation, Dr. Misbah Mohamed Misbah, in the presence of the Federation's Secretary for External Relations, Fadlallah Abdel Hafiz, and State Secretary Sid Ahmed Al-Sharif.
According to Sudan News Agency, the Secretary-General of the Federation stated that they briefed the Minister on the Federation's activities domestically and internationally, particularly its efforts in conveying Sudan's position regarding the crimes of the rebel militia and violations of international humanitarian law. He also highlighted the role of trade unions and their branches in the 'Battle of Dignity' and their support for the Armed Forces, noting that the Federation has undertaken significant work during the past period.
He added that the Minister received a copy of the draft amendment to the Trade Unions Act and pledged to subject it to further study. The meeting also heard a briefing on the Federation's strategic plan for the upcoming phase.
The two sides agreed to hold a workshop under the patronage of the Minister of Justice, with participation from all relevant stakeholders, to discuss the proposed amendments to the Trade Unions Act. They also underscored the importance of strategic coordination between the Ministry of Justice-represented by the Registrar of Labour Organizations-and the Federation, aimed at improving trade union performance through the reform of laws and regulations in line with ratified international and regional conventions related to trade union work.
For his part, the Minister of Justice praised the national roles played by the Sudan Workers' Trade Unions Federation, both domestically and internationally, in supporting the country's just cause, as well as their notable contributions in the 'Battle of Dignity' through supporting their membership, addressing workers' issues, and providing material and moral backing to the Armed Forces.
