Justice Minister Engages with Initiative to Document RSF Violations and Support Victims

Khartoum: Minister of Justice Dr. Abdullah Dirif met on Tuesday with a delegation from the National Initiative for Supporting Victims and Documenting Violations and Crimes of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia in Sudan. The meeting focused on exploring avenues to enhance joint efforts in monitoring and documenting violations and supporting victims, with the presence of the Solicitor General of the Republic of Sudan and the Acting Head of the Human Rights Department.

According to Sudan News Agency, the initiative's representative provided a briefing on its mandate, activities, and future projects related to documenting violations and crimes committed by the RSF militia. He proposed organizing a joint workshop with the National Human Rights Mechanism, noting that the initiative is preparing a comprehensive and well-documented case file to present the militia's practices before the international community. The aim is to submit evidence before international courts to secure condemnation and classification of the group as a terrorist organization.

The Solicitor General and the Acting Head of the Human Rights Department emphasized the vital role of civil society organizations, stressing the need for coordination and joint cooperation. They highlighted the importance of integrating efforts to address the challenges faced in documenting violations.

Minister of Justice Dr. Abdullah Dirif commended the initiative's efforts in supporting victims and documenting violations, reiterating the importance of full coordination with relevant authorities through the National Human Rights Mechanism. He emphasized the need for continued engagement with all concerned bodies, particularly the committee investigating violations of national law and international humanitarian law. Dr. Dirif also highlighted the significance of integrating psychological support specialists into field teams to provide comprehensive assistance to victims.

The Minister further directed an immediate response to the initiative's request to organize a joint workshop with the National Human Rights Mechanism. This workshop aims to unify efforts and strengthen the documentation of human rights violations, ensuring a coordinated approach in addressing the challenges posed by the RSF militia's activities.
