Khartoum: The Chinese Embassy in Sudan pledged $10,000 to assist Khartoum in combating epidemics, reaffirming its commitment to bilateral cooperation in health, Charg© d'Affaires Xu Jian said Wednesday.
According to Sudan News Agency, the announcement came during a meeting with Sudan's Federal Ministry of Health Undersecretary Dr. Ali Babiker. The discussions focused on the post-war reconstruction of the health sector, held in the presence of Ministry leadership and the Chinese delegation.
Dr. Babiker revealed that losses in the health sector, due to deliberate militia sabotage, are estimated at $11 billion. He outlined a five-year reconstruction plan (2026-2030) aimed at restoring services in key regions such as Khartoum, Gezira, and Sennar. He also called for support to rehabilitate Friendship Hospitals that were damaged during the conflict.
Ministry officials further requested Chinese assistance in several areas, including restarting the Shanghai-Sudan pharmaceutical factory, expanding investment in the pharmaceutical sector, establishing medical cities, and facilitating training and expertise exchange.
Xu Jian expressed China's interest in supporting various health initiatives, including malaria control, and confirmed China's readiness to cooperate across multiple fields.
