Khartoum: The Wali of Al-Gezira State, Al-Tahir Ibrahim Al-Kheir, has urged the Agricultural Bank of Sudan to broaden its financial support for the horticulture sector and the Al-Gezira Scheme, emphasizing their pivotal role in the nation's economic revival. According to Sudan News Agency, this appeal was made during a meeting at Al-Kheir's office with a delegation from the Agricultural Bank, led by its General Manager, Salah Mohamed Abdulrahim. Al-Kheir highlighted the importance of enhancing the value added from agricultural output, advocating for the promotion of small industries and the development of a strategic vision to rejuvenate the Al-Gezira Scheme. He also called for the integration of livestock into the agricultural cycle and the adoption of modern technologies and standardized practices. General Manager Abdulrahim stated that the success of agriculture in Al-Gezira is synonymous with success for all of Sudan. He announced a substantial allocation of 105 billion Sudanese pounds (SDG) for the fin ancing of wheat and cotton cultivation in the upcoming season. This funding also extends to small-scale projects and the establishment of grain silos in the state, with the bank's 14 branches prepared to support Al-Gezira's needs. In a parallel development, the Minister of Finance, Economy, and Labor, Atif Mohamed Ibrahim Abu Shawk, revealed plans to enhance partnerships with the Agricultural Bank to bolster production and stimulate economic growth. Dr. Arafa Mahmoud, the Director General and Acting Minister of the Ministry of Production and Economic Resources, reiterated the longstanding support of the Agricultural Bank for producers, urging an increase in the financing ceiling to accommodate growing production demands. Additionally, Adlan Abdulrahim, Director of the Al-Gezira Microfinance Foundation, announced initiatives to finance solar energy systems along the Nile strip and support youth projects.
