Khartoum: As part of the national campaign to combat disease vectors, particularly dengue fever and malaria, Federal Minister of Health Dr. Haitham Mohamed Ibrahim met, Saturday at the ministry’s headquarters in Khartoum, with Dr. Osama Abdelrahman, Acting Minister and Director General of Al-Gezira State Ministry of Health, in the presence of federal officials including Hamza Sami Al-Jak, Director of Vector Control Directorate.
According to Sudan News Agency, Dr. Haitham stated in a press release that the meeting reviewed arrangements in Al-Gezira State, where a campaign had been launched a month ago. He emphasized discussions on strengthening disease vector control efforts, including expanding inspection teams and incorporating Al-Gezira State into the national ‘Drying Day’ campaign. This initiative is set to take place every Saturday and Tuesday under the slogan ‘With Drying, the Fever Stops.’ Dr. Haitham also highlighted ongoing community mobilization in cities and villages, aerial spraying operations already underway, and additional supplies and equipment to ensure the campaign covers all states. He pointed out the importance of hospital readiness to handle cases and the preparedness of drug supply systems and blood banks.
The minister confirmed that the committee in charge of the Drying Campaign has mapped out activities across Khartoum localities, covering interventions, community engagement, and awareness campaigns. Details of these plans are to be announced through the media.
Dr. Osama Abdelrahman provided an update on the epidemiological situation in Al-Gezira State, emphasizing the urgent need for support due to the rising number of dengue fever and malaria cases. He highlighted the community mobilization efforts already in place and assured that, with the backing of the Federal Ministry of Health and the state government, all necessary measures will be taken to combat the diseases.
