Head of New Zealand Parliament’s Foreign Affairs, Defence and Trade Committee Affirms Support for Sudan’s Unity and Stability

Khartoum: The Charg© d’Affaires at the Sudan Embassy in Australia, Ahmed Salah Bayoumi, met on Friday with the Chairperson of the Foreign Affairs, Defence and Trade Committee at the New Zealand Parliament, Mr. Tim van de Molen, in the New Zealand Embassy in Australia. During this meeting, they discussed the ongoing situation in Sudan, particularly focusing on the actions of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia since their rebellion against the Sudanese state commenced in April 2023.

According to Sudan News Agency, Bayoumi highlighted the developments and atrocities committed by the RSF militia. These include ethnic cleansing and genocide against civilians, reportedly supported by an entity in Abu Dhabi. Bayoumi urged the New Zealand government to officially classify the RSF as a terrorist group and to exert pressure on the Abu Dhabi entity to cease its support for the militia.

In response, the Head of New Zealand’s Foreign Affairs Committee condemned all violations against civilians and called for an investigation into the acts of genocide. He reaffirmed New Zealand’s support for Sudan’s unity and territorial integrity, rejecting the establishment of any parallel government in the country. Additionally, he announced a commitment to provide urgent humanitarian assistance to Sudan.

It is noteworthy that New Zealand has already contributed humanitarian aid amounting to $5 million since the RSF rebellion began.
