Khartoum: The President of the Transitional Sovereignty Council (TSC) and Commander-in-Chief of the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF), General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, has announced the appointment of a new leadership structure for the General Staff of the Sudanese Armed Forces, with the changes set to take effect on April 2, 2026. General Yassir Abdelrahman Hassan Al-Atta has been appointed as the new Chief of the General Staff, marking a significant shift in the military hierarchy.
According to Sudan News Agency, the new appointments include Lieutenant General Abdel Khair Abdullah Nassir Darjam as the Deputy Chief of Staff for Administration, Lieutenant General Mohamed Ali Ahmed Subeir as the Chief of Military Intelligence, Lieutenant General Mua'tassim Abbas Al-Tom Ahmed as the Deputy Chief of Staff for Operations, Lieutenant General Haider Ali Al-Teraifi Ali as the Deputy Chief of Staff for Training, and Lieutenant General Khalaf Allah Abdullah Idris Abdelrahman as the Deputy Chief of Staff for Logistics.
In addition to these appointments, several officers have been promoted to the rank of Lieutenant General. These promotions include Major General Pilot Mohi-Eddin Abker Mohamed Saleh, Major General Ahmed Saleh Ahmed Abboud, Major General Accountant Rabie Fadlallah Mustafa Al-Siddiq, Major General Accountant Adil Al-Obaid Abdelrahim Abdelrahman, and Major General Engineer Amir Fadlallah Mohamed Ali.
Further personnel changes involve promotions and retirements. Lieutenant General Magdi Ibrahim Osman Khalil has been promoted to General and referred to retirement, along with Lieutenant General Khalid Abidin Mohamed Ahmed Al-Shami. Major General Engineer Omar Sir Al-Khatim Hassan Nasr has been promoted to Lieutenant General and also referred to retirement.
Additionally, retirements have been announced for Lieutenant General (Legal) Dr. Al-Mahdi Abdelrahman Mohamed Omar and Lieutenant General Nasr-Eddin Abdel-Gayum Ahmed Ali, signaling a broader overhaul within the armed forces' leadership structure.
