Brussels: Minister of Finance and Economic Planning Dr. Gebreil Ibrahim said ending the war in Sudan requires "halting external support for the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia," strengthening the humanitarian response, and supporting a national political process that leads to lasting peace.
According to Sudan News Agency, Gebreil stated in a post on his official Facebook page that he met at the European Parliament headquarters in Brussels. He was accompanied by Ambassador Abdelbagi Kabir, and they held discussions with Hilde Vautmans, Chair of the European Parliament's Africa Delegation, and Victoria Garca P©rez, the European Parliament's Rapporteur on Sudan.
He reported that during the meeting, he provided an update on the latest political, security, and humanitarian developments in Sudan, focusing on the war's impact on civilians and state institutions. He emphasized the critical role of the European Union in curbing external interference and supporting a political resolution, while reaffirming the government's dedication to the Jeddah Declaration and its advocacy for a comprehensive Sudanese-Sudanese dialogue without exclusion.
The Minister called on the European Union to "condemn the crimes of the RSF militia, work toward designating it as a terrorist organization, and refrain from equating it with the Sudanese Armed Forces." He also highlighted the ongoing threats posed by the militia to civilians and restated Sudan's firm rejection of "any attempts to undermine its territorial integrity or infringe upon its sovereignty."
