Addis ababa: Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Ambassador Mohi-Eddin Salim met on Thursday with IGAD Executive Secretary Workneh Gebeyehu at the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) Peace and Security Division headquarters in Addis Ababa.
According to Sudan News Agency, the Foreign Minister conveyed Sudan's satisfaction at rejoining IGAD as a founding member and highlighted the nation's hopes for the organization's active involvement in guiding Sudan through peace consolidation, sustainable development, and reconstruction. He also noted the return of the Government of Hope to the national capital, Khartoum, following a three-year absence, and extended an official invitation to the IGAD Executive Secretary to visit Khartoum at the earliest opportunity.
In response, the IGAD Executive Secretary expressed enthusiasm for Sudan's return to the organization, likening it to a reunion with family. He reiterated IGAD's commitment to supporting Sudan's stability and peace efforts, emphasizing the importance of backing its peacebuilding and reconstruction initiatives while respecting Sudan's sovereignty and territorial integrity and opposing any negative external interference in its domestic affairs.
