Port sudan: Minister of Energy Engineer Adviser Al-Mua'tasim Ibrahim Ahmed affirmed the ministry's readiness to rehabilitate and reconstruct oil facilities to meet the country's needs and secure fuel supply chains. This came during his inspection visit on Monday to the Ministry of Energy's strategic depots in Port Sudan and the Port Sudan Refinery depot, which are currently undergoing maintenance following destruction caused by attacks by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia. The attacks resulted in severe damage and the shutdown of the strategic cooking gas depot, one of the country's largest gas storage facilities, in addition to gasoline and petrol depots.
According to Sudan News Agency, the minister explained that the large-capacity strategic storage facilities were established by the Ministry of Energy and are state-owned. He noted that they had played a major role in securing fuel supplies and building the strategic reserve, reaffirming the ministry's commitment to rebuilding and rehabilitating them. He also praised workers involved in rehabilitating the oil facilities' infrastructure for their significant role in restoring the depots to service.
The Energy Minister further visited the depots of Suda Gas to assess the scale of ongoing work there. He described petroleum companies, including private-sector firms, as partners in fuel supply and security operations within the broader fuel supply chain framework. He also announced the ministry's support and encouragement for private-sector participation in developing the entire fuel supply system, including importation, distribution and construction of storage facilities, in order to secure the country's petroleum needs and build a strategic reserve capable of mitigating risks and emergency shortages caused by extraordinary circumstances such as regional wars.
