Economic Development Sector Reviews Priority Projects for Trade, Industry, and Minerals Ministries

Khartoum: The Economic Development Sector of the Council of Ministers convened on Sunday to review priority projects for the 2026-2027 period. The meeting was chaired by Dr. Gebreil Ibrahim, Minister of Finance and Economic Planning.

According to Sudan News Agency, the sector examined proposals from the Ministry of Trade and Industry, which included the development of integrated complexes for vegetable oil production in regions that possess a comparative advantage in oilseed crops. These complexes aim to serve as a catalyst for revitalizing the food-processing industry and enhancing the value added to agricultural products.

Additionally, the proposed projects encompass the establishment of animal product complexes, a national clothing incubator, and initiatives designed to create sustainable employment opportunities for youth across the states.

The session also evaluated projects from the Ministry of Minerals, which highlighted geological surveys, mineral exploration, and the creation of a comprehensive database to regulate activities within the mining sector.

The discussions further included the Red Sea Treasures Project, an initiative focused on exploiting mineral resources in Sudan's territorial waters to bolster the national economy.
