Beirut: A delegation from the Syrian Ministry of Interior, led by Assistant Minister for Security Affairs Major General Abdel Qader Tahan, conducted an official visit to Lebanon. The delegation, accompanied by several ministry officers, met with Lebanese Minister of Interior and Municipalities Ahmad Al-Hajjar to discuss strengthening security cooperation between the two countries.
According to Syrian Arab News Agency, the meeting focused on reviewing existing collaborations and exploring ways to enhance security and policing efforts. The discussions aimed to address mutual interests, reinforce coordination in confronting security challenges, combat crime and terrorism, and ensure stability in both nations.
Both parties highlighted the deep-rooted historical ties between Syria and Lebanon, expressing their commitment to advancing bilateral cooperation. The delegations emphasized the importance of enhancing coordination to meet the aspirations of both peoples and bolster regional security.
The Syrian delegation engaged in several meetings with Lebanon’s General Security, Internal Security, and State Security Directorates. Discussions centered on boosting security cooperation, developing relations across various sectors, and sharing expertise and modern practices to improve operational efficiency.
The meetings underscored the significance of continuous coordination and information exchange in internal security, crime prevention, and counterterrorism efforts, contributing to heightened regional security and stability.
In a statement to SANA, Major General Tahan stated that the visit is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen security ties between Syria and Lebanon. The delegation included representatives from departments specializing in counterterrorism, criminal investigations, border control, special operations, and intelligence.
Tahan noted that the visit began with an extensive session focused on enhancing coordination, particularly in counterterrorism and anti-narcotics efforts, as well as facilitating the movement of citizens across borders. Bilateral sessions resulted in practical understandings for information exchange and field coordination.
The visit concluded with a final meeting with Lebanese Interior Minister Ahmad Al-Hajjar. Tahan described the visit as a significant step toward an effective security partnership between the two countries, reaffirming the Syrian Ministry of Interior’s commitment to deepening cooperation to confront shared threats.
