Khartoum: The Governor of the Darfur Region, Minni Arko Minawi, led a crucial meeting in Port Sudan with the ministers of the Darfur Regional Government and the walis (governors) of Darfur states. The meeting primarily focused on the humanitarian crisis unfolding in Sudan and the Darfur region, particularly the dire situation in El-Fashir.
According to Sudan News Agency, the discussions highlighted the siege of El-Fashir by militias, rebels, and foreign mercenaries. The recent shelling, which occurred on Friday and Saturday, resulted in civilian casualties, raising urgent concerns among the regional leaders. The meeting participants expressed strong disapproval of the international and regional silence regarding the plight of El-Fashir’s residents. They underscored the necessity for the United Nations to denounce the ethnic cleansing operations targeting the residents of El-Fashir.
The meeting also covered the administrative challenges confronting the state governments amid the ongoing conflict in Sudan. The state walis reiterated their unwavering support for the armed forces, joint forces, and other security bodies committed to alleviating the siege on El-Fashir’s citizens.
