Al-Mansouri Calls for Expansion of Export of Processed and Slaughtered Meat

Al-gezira: Minister of Animal Resources and Fisheries Prof. Ahmad Al-Tijani Al-Mansouri stressed the importance of expanding exports of slaughtered and processed meat, as they achieve higher value compared to exporting live livestock. This came during an inspection visit to Al-Gezira International Meat Company (JAMCO) in Al-Gezira State, accompanied by the Ministry Undersecretary Dr. Ammar Al-Sheikh Idris.

According to Sudan News Agency, the minister noted that there are significant opportunities to export meat to Gulf Cooperation Council countries, and that there are requests from Turkey, Greece, Algeria, Indonesia, Malaysia, and other countries for Sudanese meat. He emphasized supporting and upgrading slaughterhouses to meet international standards, enabling Sudan to open new markets and increase its share in global markets.

Al-Mansouri also pointed out that the closure of the Strait of Hormuz and rising shipping and insurance costs present a major opportunity to promote Sudanese meat and support foreign currency inflows to the treasury. He stated that the slaughterhouse includes all sections for meat production and slaughter of cattle and sheep, noting its strategic location. He added that there is a 120-feddan plot of land near the slaughterhouse, recommending it be used for fattening European calves and certain sheep breeds from South Africa.

The minister listened to a detailed briefing from the company's board of directors presented by Dr. Omar Babiker Bob regarding efforts to start operating the slaughterhouse after electricity transformers are connected within 45 days, with operations expected to begin within 90 days. He confirmed that the operational plan is ready in terms of infrastructure, technical requirements, and technical teams. He said that in coordination with the ministry regarding export licensing and international requirements, they are ready for operation and to contribute to meeting local and global meat demand.
