Kigali: Al-Hilal secured a 2-1 victory over South Africa's Mamelodi Sundowns in the fourth round of the CAF Champions League group stage at Kigali's Amahoro Stadium, rising to 8 points to top its group.
According to Sudan News Agency, the first half saw both teams exchanging attacks, with Al-Hilal dominating through Jean Claude and Koulibaly on the wings and Mohamed Abdelrahman in the center. In the final minute of the half, Al-Hilal earned a penalty after Abdelraouf forced the Sundowns goalkeeper into a foul, allowing captain Mohamed Abdelrahman to score, ending the first half 1-0.
Early in the second half, Jean Claude extended Al-Hilal's lead with a strike from outside the box. Substitute Salis pulled one back for Sundowns, and the visitors pressed for an equalizer but were repeatedly denied by Al-Hilal's defense and skilled goalkeeper. Koulibaly came close to scoring a third with a solo effort.
Al-Hilal maintained their composure to secure the 2-1 win, a vital victory over one of Africa's strongest clubs.
In the fifth round, Al-Hilal will face MC Alger in Algeria, while Sundowns will host AS Saint-Louisienne of the Democratic Republic of Congo.
