Al-gadarif: Al-Gadarif State Ministry of Health Director-General Dr. Ahmed Al-Amin Adam engaged in discussions with Dr. Margaret, International Lead for Kala-azar at Doctors Without Borders/M©decins Sans Fronti¨res (MSF) Netherlands, at the ministry's headquarters.
According to Sudan News Agency, the meeting, which included the presence of Ministry Director of Organizations Administration Professor Dafallah Alam Al-Huda, focused on enhancing MSF's health interventions in Al-Gadarif State. Discussions covered services at Al-Tunaydibah camp for Ethiopian refugees, rehabilitation of Al-Hawata, Al-Fao, and Al-Mafaza hospitals, and MSF's contributions to the state's health system, emergency response, and epidemic control.
Dr. Al-Amin commended MSF Netherlands for its efforts in combating kala-azar and supporting hospitals, noting that the partnership with M©decins Sans Fronti¨res is crucial for improving health responses and tackling epidemiological challenges in the state.
Following the meeting, the delegation visited Al-Salam Hospital in Al-Gadarif municipality, which is set to become a specialized centre for neglected tropical diseases. The team assessed hospital departments and identified needs for future service development.
The delegation, along with the Minister of Health, plans additional field visits to various hospitals to strengthen partnerships and coordinate health service improvements in Al-Gadarif State.
The meeting also established plans for the International Conference on Kala-azar in Al-Gadarif State next May, aiming to unify efforts, share expertise, and support control and treatment strategies, as the state represents about 85% of national cases.
