United Nations: United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres has announced the appointment of Zia Choudhury from Bangladesh as the new United Nations Resident Coordinator in Ghana. This appointment has been made with the approval of the Ghanaian government and will be effective from June 21.
According to EMM, Mr. Choudhury brings over 25 years of experience in the fields of development and humanitarian action to his new role. Prior to this appointment, he served as the United Nations Resident Coordinator in Botswana, a position he held since January 2020.
Mr. Choudhury began his career as a national field officer on a disaster-prone island in the Bay of Bengal. Over the years, he has taken on various coordination and leadership roles across continents including Africa, Asia, and Europe. His extensive experience includes senior positions in non-governmental organizations, development of policies and practices related to humanitarian quality standards, and founding a social enterprise focused on ethical food. Additionally, he has served on the boards of several non-governmental organizations.
