Cairo: The Secretary-General of the Zakat Chamber, Dr. Yahya Ahmed Al-Ghamrawi, has arrived in Cairo to address the situation of Sudanese nationals detained in Egyptian prisons due to unpaid debts. His visit marks a significant step in the Chamber's efforts to assist these individuals.
According to Sudan News Agency, Dr. Al-Amin Abdel Gadir, the Zakat Chamber's representative on the Hope Committee for Voluntary Return, announced the completion of preparations for the launch of 100 buses next Saturday. This initiative, under the patronage of the Zakat Chamber's Secretary-General, is set to complete the first phase of the Chamber's plan to facilitate the voluntary return of 10,000 Sudanese to Sudan, in collaboration with the Hope Committee.
Dr. Abdel Gadir reported that 20 buses carrying 980 passengers departed on Thursday. Nine of these buses were funded by the Zakat Chamber, while the Hope Committee organized the remaining 11. The passengers adhered to the baggage regulations established for this operation. There has been a strong demand for registration, with 80% of those seeking to return being women and children. The Zakat Chamber is giving priority to vulnerable families residing in Egypt's Badr and 6th of October districts.
He pointed out that many families can no longer afford rent, prompting the committee to prioritize their return due to their challenging economic circumstances. Dr. Abdel Gadir also expressed gratitude towards the Egyptian government for their assistance in hosting Sudanese nationals and facilitating the return process.
Furthermore, the Hope Committee for Voluntary Return announced the resolution of the case involving 104 passengers from the Abyei Area who had been stranded aboard the vessel Sinai. Committee Chairman Mohamed Widaa stated that these cases were resolved on both national and humanitarian grounds, ensuring that all stranded individuals arrived in good health without any reported health complications or other issues.
