KHARTOUM: General Yassir Abdel-Rahman Hassan Al-Atta, a prominent member of Sudan’s Transitional Sovereignty Council and Assistant Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, has lauded the enduring unity of the Sudanese nation, emphasizing the potential for future development, security, and peace. Speaking at the Khartoum State Government’s celebrations marking the 69th anniversary of Sudan’s independence, Al-Atta highlighted the nation’s strengthened cohesion and the critical need to dismantle militia groups and their supporters both domestically and internationally.
According to Sudan News Agency, the event took place at the Graduates Conference House in Omdurman, with notable attendees including the Wali (governor) of Khartoum State, members of his government, commanders of regular forces, and representatives from civil society. The celebration underscored Sudan’s commitment to progress and national unity as it seeks to build upon the sacrifices of its past.
Al-Atta’s remarks were echoed by the Wali of Khartoum State, Ahmed Osman Hamza, who emphasized the importance of learning from historical sacrifices and addressing current challenges to forge a prosperous future for Sudan. He expressed optimism, noting that signs of victory were becoming evident.
In closing the event, General Al-Atta honored the family of Mishwar Juma Sahl, a member of the Independence Parliament, and First Lieutenant Shainto Ali Gotia, who participated in raising the Independence Flag, recognizing their contributions to Sudan’s historic journey towards independence.
