Geneva: The Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO), Dr. Tedros Adhanom, praised the efforts of the Sudanese government 'in delivering health services and controlling the outbreaks of diseases such as cholera, measles, and polio, despite the ongoing challenges.'
According to Sudan News Agency, Dr. Adhanom expressed his appreciation following the visit of Prime Minister, Professor Kamil Idris, to WHO headquarters in Geneva. The meetings addressed Sudan's Peace Initiative, presented by the Prime Minister during the UN Security Council session on Sudan, which received regional and international support and recognition.
The UN official highlighted on his X account the importance of the Prime Minister's peace initiative in ending violence, protecting civilians, and maintaining peace and security. He commended the government's ongoing efforts in managing health services amidst challenging conditions.
Dr. Adhanom further discussed with the Prime Minister strategies to ensure the delivery of aid, protection of healthcare workers and patients, and the reconstruction of the health system. He affirmed WHO's readiness to support Sudan in ensuring the continued provision of health services across the nation.
