Port sudan: Acting Minister of Justice and Head of the National Human Rights Mechanism, Howaida Ali Awad Al-Karim, has emphasized the significance of ongoing collaboration and synchronization between the National Human Rights Mechanism and international human rights systems. This focus emerged during her meeting in Port Sudan with Mr. Farid Hamdan, Deputy Country Director of the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR).
According to Sudan News Agency, the meeting was part of an effort to enhance joint coordination between the OHCHR Country Office and the National Human Rights Mechanism. A proposal was put forward to host a roundtable discussion aimed at exploring ways to meet Sudan’s international human rights obligations. This initiative is part of the broader mission to strengthen and promote human rights, aligning with international mechanisms like the Universal Periodic Review, treaty bodies, and United Nations special procedures.
At the conclusion of the meeting, Howaida reiterated the crucial nature of cooperation between the National Human Rights Mechanism and the Country Office, especially once the situation in Sudan stabilizes enough to allow for the resumption of normal activities.
